THE new operator of the Ballarat saleyards, Regional Infrastructure, is expected to build a $25-million selling complex at Windermere, about 10km west of Ballarat.

However, neither Regional Infrastructure nor the Ballarat City Council could confirm if the site, on the Learmonth-Windermere Rd, has been given the green light, The Weekly Times believes talks with nearby landholders are nearing a close and a planning permit will be lodged in the coming months.

Regional Infrastructure chief executive Andrew McCarron could not confirm the site's location.

Regional Infrastructure will take over the management of the council-owned yards on La Trobe St on May 1 and will continue to run the yards while it develops the new Victorian Central Livestock Exchange.
