ALFA Romeo owners are celebrating the 100th anniversary of their beloved marque this month, with a series of special events planned for Melbourne and country Victoria.

Organised by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club of Australia (Victorian division), the party opens this weekend with a two-day get-together at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit.

About 160 cars from the 1930s to today will take part in races, sprints, regularity events and parade laps.

The following week, from March 18-22, Alfa enthusiasts will be back at the island for their annual national gathering, Alfesta 2010.

Alfesta includes three days of motorsports at the Phillip Island circuit, including taking place of honour at the Victorian Historic Racing Register classic race meeting on that Sunday.

Then, on March 22-23, the club will stage a two-day touring event through country Victoria from Phillip Island to Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula, then cross Port Phillip Heads by ferry to drive through Queenscliff, Lorne, Skenes Creek and Beech Forest on their way back to Melbourne.

A centenary celebration dinner will be held at the Junction Oval, in St Kilda, on Saturday, March 27.
