THE Australian Conservation Foundation is calling for donations to buy 200 megalitres of water for the Hattah Lakes.

ACF healthy ecosystems manager Paul Sinclair said the Just Add Water campaign was initiated by frustration with the slow pace of government action on rescuing the Murray Darling Basin's wetlands.

"Polling by Auspoll in NSW, Victoria and South Australia shows 89 per cent of people think the Murray Darling is dangerously degraded and needs to be fixed now," Dr Sinclair said.

Milk war heats up

MURRAY Goulburn has increased its shareholding in Warrnambool Cheese and Butter from 7 per cent to 8.37 per cent.

However, WCB chairman Frank Davis hit back at MG claims that its co-operative structure is better for farmers, with figures suggest it has outperformed its rival on many counts.

WCB said it achieved 107 per cent growth in sales revenue from 2000-09 compared to MG's 73 per cent, while its milk intake growth was 60 per cent compared to MG's 4 per cent.

Action station

THE Mallee Research Station at Walpeup is set to be resurrected, with the Sunraysia Institute of TAFE soon to be granted a lease from the Department of Primary Industries.

The institute has confirmed discussions have been taking place, and a lease was "just a formality".

An institute spokeswoman said short courses would run at Walpeup, along with some research programs.
