A TASMANIAN Angus stud after well-balanced bulls paid the top price of $7000 at Alpine Angus today.
Held on-property at Rosewhite, the bull and female sale attracted 56 registered buyers.
A total of 45 bulls sold from the 47 offered, to gross $175,000 and average $3804.
Bulls went to Omeo, Bairnsdale, Khancoban, Bethanga, King Island, Wangaratta, Myrtleford, Yea and Benalla.
Trevor and Teresa Hall, Quarterway Angus, Scotsdale, Tasmania, paid the top price of $7000 for Alpine Darcy.
Sired by Lawsons Dinky-Di, the 830kg autumn-2008 drop bull ranked in the top 10 per cent for calving ease, birthweight, eye muscle area and marbling.
Among the major buyers were Trevor Davis, Tom Groggin Station, Khancoban, with four bulls to a top of $6500, and John Mitchell, Bethanga, also with four bulls to $2500.
Mr Davis, who runs 420 commercial Angus cows, said prices were reasonable at the top end of the bulls.
Alpine Angus manager Willie Milne said the sale clearance had improved this year.
"We had good support from new clients in Tasmania and King Island," Mr Milne said.
"It was a good even line of bulls offering value for money."
