WODONGA'S store market turned into a feeding frenzy yesterday with autumn-drop steer prices rising 30c/kg.

Grown steers were not immune from the buyer charge, jumping 10c/kg or $50 a head.

Processors, restockers and domestic lot feeders again went head to head on the grown unjoined heifers, pushing them up by $80.

Albury-Wodonga Independent Stock Agents yarded 2220 cows and calves, steers, joined and unjoined females for the sale.

The event grossed $1.4 million and averaged $648.

Cattle sold to Molong, Finley, Cootamundra, Henty, Hay, Corryong, Wangaratta, Myrtleford and Benalla.

Active lot feeders on steers and unjoined heifers included Wahroonga Beef, Conroy Brothers and Swift Australia.

A feature of the yarding was the dispersal of stud Charolais cows and calves by Ken Drane, of Wymah.

The cows, with spring drop calves, and rejoined sold from $1500 to $3550.

In the commercial pens, rejoined cows and calves topped at $1300 while first calf heifers with calves and not rejoined sold for $1040-$1350.

Grown steers, weighing more than 350kg, sold for $685-$890 (164-211c/kg).

Weaner and yearling steers, weighing 250-350kg, sold for $554-$700 (198-249c/kg) - up 30c/kg.

Heavier unjoined heifers were up $80 on the previous special store sale, selling for $600-$745.

Heifers weighing less than 300kg were up 10c/kg at 184-224c/kg.
