THE rumble of military vehicles was heard loud and clear last weekend at Corowa, when the Khaki Vehicle Enthusiast club held its annual gathering and swap meet.
Known as the Corowa Swim In, due to the presence of amphibious vehicles, the annual event is growing in popularity.
Club spokesman Bruce Watt said the KVE was proudly claiming a southern hemisphere record of the largest gathering of ex-military vehicles in the one place at the one time.
"This year the event was themed "the year of the jeep" and it attracted collectors and restorers from around Australia and overseas," Bruce said.
"The final numbers were a record 266 total vehicles, up from 194 last year and there were 179 jeeps of all flavours, including 84 Willys and 95 Fords."
A highlight of the weekend's activities was the chance for several of the ex-military amphibious vehicles to get wet in the Murray River.
