JBS to buy Rockdale Beef
March 22, 2010
After weeks of speculation, the world's largest beef processor has confirmed it will take on the integrated beef cattle feedlot, feed mill, meatworks and farming business for an undisclosed price.
Rockdale, currently owned by Mitsubishi Corp and Itoham Foods Inc of Japan, has a slaughtering capacity of 200,000 cattle per year and exports to 12 countries.
The deal is the most recent in a long list for JBS.
Last year alone, JBS bought poultry producer Pilgrim's Pride Corp of Pittsburg, Texas in the US, Brazilian beef business Bertin SA and Australian lamb producer and processor Tatiara Meat Co, operated near Bordertown in South Australia.
