CHAROLAIS bulls sold to a top of $12,000 and averaged $5000 at the Paringa Livestock on-property sale at Yea today.
Vendor Tom Lawson said the sixth annual sale for the stud was its best ever.
Paringa offered 17 18-month-old and 29 yearling Charolais, of which only three of the young bulls were passed in.
Most of the demand was for the ready-to-work 18-month-old bulls, which averaged $6500.
Kevin Whelan of the Silver Brae Charolais stud from Korumburra paid the top price of $12,000 for a Pinay son, which had a below average birthweigyht but an exception 600-day growth breeding value of +49kg.
Other prominent Charolais buyers were Queenslanders Jim Wedge from the Ascot Charolais stud from Toowoomba and Max Muller of the Brisbane Valley Pastoral Company who between them bought seven bulls for an average $6800.
Mr Wedge said he had come south to Paringa sale to broaden his genetic base.
Mr Wedge thought the Paringa sale average was very good, athough he thought some of the top performance recorded bulls were under-priced compared to Queensland vales.
The Paringa sale also featured an offering of 14 Red Angus bulls, which sold to a top of $7500 and averaged $3590.
And in a first up for the stud, Paringa catalogued 24 Stabiliser bulls based on a an Angus Gelvieh composite.T
