BULLS sold to $50,000 at the Tuwharetoa Angus stud dispersal at Tarcutta, NSW, today.
This equalled the Australian record price paid for an Angus bull, according to auctioneer Michael Glasser
The joint buyers of the top priced bull, Tuwharetoa D145, were TeMania New Zealand and nearby stud, Dunoon Angus of Holbrook, NSW.
The bull was sired by TeMania Ambassador A134 and out of a Lawsons Henry VIII Y5 cow. It had estimated breeding values of +104 for 600 day weight, +8 for eye muscle area, +3.3 for intramuscular and +143 for the long-fed CAAB index.
This placed the bull in the top one per cent of the breed for EMA, IMF and the long-fed CAAB index.
He was also in the top five per cent of the breed for the heavy grass-fed, short-fed domestic and terminal indicies.
The sale of some 200 cows and 40 bulls is the last for stud principal John Gaskin.
"We have been selecting for growth and carcass for 15 years...no running off to some new place to chase the latest fad in cattle looks or percieved maternal ability. We just keep focusing on the things we think matter; good eating quality, growth, calving ease and fertility," Mr Gaskin said.
Buyers commented the offering of bulls were of exceptional structure with outstanding feet.
