VICTORIAN machinery dealers delivered 545 tractors for the first quarter of the year, up 9 per cent on the same period last year.

The Victorian result is in contrast to the national situation where tractor sales eased 3 per cent.

The sales figures, collected by Agriview for the the Tractor and Machinery Association, show 2334 tractors were delivered nationally for the first quarter.

Agriview's managing director Alan Kirsten said many tractors were still being delivered as a result of last year's orders from the Federal Government's investment allowance.

"Many dealers have reported that deliveries for the first quarter include tractors bought last year, so we expect a slowing of deliveries in the next few months," Alan said.

But dealers remain confident, boosted by a steady demand for secondhand tractors.
