GILTRAP Ag Equipment has unveiled its latest forage and silage trailer, which features a unique feature that pushes material off the back of the wagon.
Known as the Fliegl Push Off trailer, the machine is a multi-purpose trailer that can be used as a transporter for silage and other forage crops, or as a chaser bin at grain harvest.
Unlike many other wagons or trailers currently on the market, the Fliegl has the ability to compact the contents via a large hydraulic ram that pushes the front wall panel towards the rear of the machine.
Fliegl managing director Johann Fliegl was at the Farm World field days recently where he said the ability to compact the trailer's contents meant up to 60 per cent more product could be placed in the wagon.
"Depending on the size of the wagon, it means you can get up to 20 tonnes of forage in the Fliegl," Johann said.
"And by pushing the load off the rear of the trailer via the tailgate, there is no need for tipping, so it's much more stable and safer than a tipper trailer."
The Fliegl wagon at Farm World was the ASW 268 model, which has a total weight capacity of 20 tonnes.
The trailer's functions are controlled by the towing vehicle's hydraulics and the trailer can be fitted with two, three or four axles.
Adding further flexibility to the Fliegl is the ability to change the tailgate.
There are several versions of the standard lifting tailgate, which includes one with spreader bars to help evenly distribute the material as it exits the trailer and one with a side-discharge ability.
Another tailgate has an auger, which means the trailer can be used to transfer material such as grain around the farm or feedlot.
"It's a very flexible system," Johann said.
There are 12 Fliegl trailers in the range and these will be distributed by Giltrap Ag Equipment.
Giltrap Ag Equipment sales manager Warren Grose said the trailers could handle from 20 to 60 cubic metres of uncompressed hay or silage.
"The trailers can be optioned up to have one to four axles, hydraulic, pneumatic or leaf-spring suspension and the top-of-the-range trailer has a payload of 40 tonnes," Warren said.
"The ability to change the tailgate provides further flexibility as the trailer can be used as a feed-out wagon, hauling trailer, chaser bin or spreader," Warren said.
According to Warren, it takes about two hours to change the tailgate over for different operations.
"The trailers also come with an option of ABS braking and steerable axles for better turning."
Horsepower requirements vary for the trailers, up to about 250kW depending on the load.
