I READ with interest your editorial "Hard yards by the unsung", (WT, March 24).

I thought of all the people I have known over the years who have worked as volunteers, but never get any thanks.

My own experience has been in the area of religious education in state schools, but it was only when I left that I got any recognition.

I told one school representative that if they had told me how they respected what I did I would never have left.

It's too late when people finish up or die to acknowledge their efforts.
