MASSEY Ferguson's latest foray into the Australian tractor market comprises four models of no-nonsense machines.

The made-in-India 2600 series of Massey Ferguson tractors includes the 2605, the 2615, the 2625 and the range-topping 2635.

The 2605, rated at 28.3kW is four-wheel-drive while the other three models can be two or four-wheel-drive.

All models feature Roll Over Protection Structure safety and a rear hitch that can be category one or category two thanks to cross-drilled ball ends.

AGCO Australia's Massey Ferguson utility tractor product manager Ross Greig said the four models of 2600 tractors replace the 400 series.

"The 2600 series completes Massey Ferguson's utility tractor line-up," Ross said.

"The 2600s are great general purpose tractors which are very well-built and capable."

The 2615 has a three-cylinder, 36.5kW engine while the 2625 has a four-cylinder, 47kW engine and the 2635 has a four-cylinder 54.5kW engine.

The Simpson diesel engines are made under licence for Massey Ferguson in India and Ross said they feature direct-injection technology to provide economical performance.

"The 2635 has a turbo-charged diesel while the other three engines are normally-aspirated diesels," Ross said.

"Much of the engineering used to build the Simpson engines comes from the licensed manufacture of the famous Perkins diesel engines so they are economical and reliable."

Each model has eight forward and two reverse gears via a centre-shift transmission with a conventional gear lever and clutch set up.

Rear linkage lift capacity is 1450kg at the ball ends for the 2605 and 2615 and the two larger tractors have a rear linkage lift capacity of 2050kg.

Rear remote hydraulic valves are optional.

Three hydraulic pumps are standard on each model to provide the necessary power for all the hydraulic circuits.

One hydraulic pump services the power steering, a second pump provides auxiliary hydraulic flow for external implements and attachments and a third pump is the Massey Ferguson system for controlling the rear hitch.

The first shipments of the 2600 will arrive in Australia in July.

The 2605 is priced at $24,090.
