BIG lines of one-mark spring drop weaners ticked all the boxes for buyers at Wodonga special store sale today.
Restockers, finishers and lotfeeders kicked the market by up to 20c/kg across all categories.Heavy spring-drop steers remained firm on the last special store sale while the only category to take a hit was lightweight steers, down 23c/kg.
Selling agents Corcoran Parker, Elders and Landmark presented one of the biggest yardings of the decade, with 7500 cattle.
Buyers attended from Gippsland, Upper Murray, North East, central Victoria, the Murray Valley and Riverina.
A feature of the sale was even lines of one-mark autum and spring-drop steers from Cobungra Station, Omeo, Tarabah, Morundah, and Clear Springs, Jingellic.
Demand for grown steers was solid, with the market gaining 9c/kg to finish at 162-203c/kg ($630-$835).
The heavy end of the spring drop steers topped at $705 for a pen of Ironbark blood Herefords, weighing 360kg and sold by Hicks Herefords, Running Creek.
The middle run of autumn and spring-drop Hereford steers sold for $540-$710 or 200-250c/kg. Their Angus counterparts were $25 up on the previous store sale at $485-$720, or 187-229c/kg.
Unjoined mixed age cows and calves topped at $1200 while cows pregnancy tested for a winter calving topped at $1000.
Solid demand for grown heifers resulted in prices rising by $10 ($570-$740) and those weighing under 300kg being $35 dearer at $400-$600.
