INNOVATIVE Victorian cattle producers Hopkins River Beef are broadening their horizons to take their beef over the borders.

Hopkins River Beef, based at Dunkeld in the Western District and run by the Maconochie family, have been supplying high-end Victorian restaurants with their grain and grass-finished product for several years.

HRB marketing manager Adam North said the company would be sending a "couple of pallets of beef" to Adelaide, as well as to Sydney in coming weeks following strong inquiry from the food service sector.

"We plan to go national and take our beef across Australia," Mr North said.

He said the Maconochies were turning off up to 15,000 cattle from their feedlot and paddocks annually and had expanded into home delivery around Melbourne.

The family had also launched their Carbon Hoofprint brand earlier this year, he said.

"The home delivery was a little project that started and expanded really quickly," Mr North said.

However the food service sector still accounts for the bulk of their beef, he said.
