NEW Zealand has suspended imports of some fresh produce lines from Australia.
It comes after the discovery of live cucumber fruit fly eggs in a consignment of fruit and vegetables last week.
Biosecurity New Zealand said in a statement that fruit fly was found on rockmelon in a single container from Queensland, which also contained zucchini and beans.
The rockmelons have been impounded and earmarked for reshipment or destruction.
BNZ said the zucchini and beans were cleared as they were "compliant with the import health standard".
BNZ plant imports and exports group manager Stephen Butcher said the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service had been asked to investigate if the melons were treated post-harvest as required or if the treatment failed.
Dr Butcher said imports of fresh produce from Queensland, using the same treatment system, had been suspended until an investigation by authorities in both countries was complete.
