SIXTH generation Skipton farmer, Simon Tayler, describes Yallambee as a "good mixed farming property".

Simon and his wife, Trish, bought Yallambee in 2004 and have enjoyed the property's abundant supply of water and fertile soils.

"We've had a self-replacing Merino flock, prime lambs and Angus cattle on the property and we also crop one third of the property," Simon said.

"The land is made up of red to black volcanic soil and the property is 85 per cent arable.

"All the pastures are improved, with a mixture of phalaris, ryegrass and clover (and) some lucerne too."

Simon said Yallambee had a carrying capacity of about 14 dry sheep equivalent per hectare.

Crops have not been sown this year but wheat and barley were grown on about 200ha last year.

The property's water supply comes from three bores, which are reticulated throughout the farm.

A 3.2ha lake at the front of the house supplies water to a beautiful century-old garden.

Yallambee is divided into 25 main paddocks, all with electric fencing.

"It's an easily managed place because there is a central laneway throughout it and the fencing is probably no more than 10 years old," Simon said.

"I've absolutely enjoyed farming here and we've been given the opportunity to pursue other farming opportunities.

" That's the only reason we're moving on."

The five-bedroom homestead at Yallambee boasts two bathrooms and large formal living spaces.

"It's a nice place to live," Simon said.

"Yallambee is the name of the property and the Aboriginal meaning for that is "to dwell at ease".

"It's a beautiful setting," Simon said.

Yallambee also has a three-bedroom house and a two-bedroom cottage.

Farm infrastructure includes a four-stand woolshed, undercover drenching and sheep- yard facilities, a new machinery and hay shed, outstanding cattle yards and sundry shedding.

Yallambee is about 12km northwest of Skipton, 20km south of Beaufort and about 50km from Ballarat.
