THREE candidates have nominated for presidency of the Federation Equestrian International.

They are current president Princess Haya of Jordan; Sven Holmberg, of Sweden; and the federation's first vice-president Henk Rottinghuis, of Holland, who was elected as a member of the FEI Audit and Compliance Committee at the 2009 General Assembly.

Princess Haya, elected in 2006, has declared that she is seeking a second four-year term to take her through to the 2014 general assembly.

The election will take place at this year's FEI general assembly, which will be held in Taiwan on 5 November.

National federations will vote by secret ballot at the general assembly.

The FEI currently has 133 national federations.

A candidate requires a two-thirds majority to win the election. Equestrian nations can expect to see a tough pre-election campaign.
