REVENGE was sweet for Maryborough Castlemaine in its interleague victory over Lexton Plains.

The possibility of winning a spot in next year's Country Championships was an added bonus.

Spurred on by last year's 99-point loss, MCDFL played a game of fast footy that saw them win 12.21 (93) to 6.7 (43).

Lexton Plains got off to a good start, with captain Kiernan Molloy kicking three goals in the first term to give his team an 11-point lead at quarter-time.

But a four-goal run by MCDFL stopped the opposition in its tracks, and by half-time Maryborough had turned the game around for a 27-point lead.

The second half was marred by poor performance in front of the posts as MCDFL clocked up 15 behinds.

But LPFL couldn't capitalise on the opportunity and MCDFL went on a goal-kicking spree, booting six unanswered goals in the final term.

MCDFL captain Matt Peake (Campbell's Creek) was named best-on-ground for his performance at half-forward, where he consistently drove the ball down to the big sticks.

Ballarat Central Administration Hub chief executive Rod Ward said the game had been an "important match" for MCDFL given last year's defeat.

"It was also good to see the VCFL represented at the game," Ward said.

"I think they'll be impressed by the (Maryborough Castlemaine) league."

Ward said MCDFL was currently seeking "official" involvement in the 2011 Country Championships, and was likely to be joined by LPFL in the request.

"Lexton Plains will be seeking a (interleague) game in some way shape or form," he said.

In the earlier games, MCDFL's under-19 team had a 63-point win, while the under-16s were pipped at the post by LPFL by four points.

LPFL under-14s had a massive 102-point win, but its netballers weren't so lucky, with MCDFL winning two of the three netball games.

A large crowd attended the day, with the gate taking about $8000.

"There was some great games, all in the good spirit of the day," Ward said.
