WHETHER your stead is for pony club or polocrosse, around the farm or the racetrack, horse insurance is important and it's growing in popularity.
According to Richard Logan, the managing director Logan Livestock Insurance Agency, horse insurance is one of the most specialised types of insurance in the world and one of the newest.
"It really only came to the forefront in the 1940s and since then policies have developed to cover the horse from conception to the grave, including infertility and transit," Mr Logan said.
He said demand for horse insurance was increasing as more people became involved with horses for pleasure and exercise.
"It is important to realise any animal insurance is highly specialised and horses are no different," Mr Logan said.
"For starters you have a 500kg horse with a mind of its own."
As the head of a family-owned horse insurance broker with more than 45 years experience, Mr Logan is perfectly placed to cover the basics of horse insurance at Equitana, to be held on November 18-21 at the Melbourne Showgrounds.
Mr Logan will be on hand at Equitana to discuss how to take out a policy, what a policy covers and how to make a claim.
