THE US Environmental Protection Agency said it would delay until autumn a decision on whether more corn-based ethanol than the current 10 per cent limit could be blended into petrol.
An EPA statement said more testing still needed to be conducted on cars to see how they ran on a 15 per cent ethanol blend, but that preliminary results "look good".
The US Department of Agriculture officials said the finding was good news for the ethanol industry.
Super dairy defeat
ANIMAL welfare campaigners are claiming victory after proposals for a 3000-cow "super dairy" in Lincolnshire, in southeast England, were dropped.
Vegetarians International Voice for Animals group lobbied the planners and local villagers.
In a statement, the developer, Velmur, said it pulled out after reflecting on a meeting with South Witham Parish Council and comments from local residents.
UK grain on the rebound
WHEAT prices in the UK have bounced back by about $5-$6.50 a tonne this week, although traders remain cautious about where prices will go next.
June feed wheat prices ended last week at about $158-168 a tonne, depending on region, with futures prices for July 2010 hitting $168 a tonne and November futures at $177 a tonne.
Stamp of organic ways
THE EU has a new logo for organic products (above). The logo was published by the European Commission in the Official Journal of the EU.
It will become obligatory from July 1 and will appear on the market during a two-year transition period.
EU milk report released
THE High Level Group on milk, set up in October last year in the wake of the dairy crisis, has finalised the report on its deliberations.
The recommendations include concrete moves to enhance the use of written contracts in the dairy supply chain and to consider proposals to increase the collective bargaining power of dairy producers.
