LANDCARE in Victoria has been given a $9.9 million boost over the next four years.

State Environment and Climate Change Minister Gavin Jennings said the funding came from the Government's $631 million Ready for Tomorrow - A Blueprint for Regional and Rural Victoria.

This funding has meant regional Victorian Landcare co-ordinator positions will continue and he also said the money would also help communities across the state to improve and protect natural assets.

Water cuts reward

DAIRY processor Longwarry Food Park is a finalist in the 2010 Telstra Victorian Business Awards. It will compete for the Sensis Social Responsibility Award.

Longwarry Food Park has reduced its water usage by 32 per cent and increased plant capacity from 2.3 to 4 tonnes an hour using in-house technology.

Food choices

ORGANIC farming has been named as the industry most likely to boom in 2010-11.

Research analyst IBISWorld said organic farming would benefit "as Australians consider the health benefits and environmental impacts of their food choices". It tipped insulation services to suffer after the government scrapped the home insulation program.

Retreat to oval

THE Echuca South Recreation Reserve oval has been named as the Shire of Campaspe's Neighbourhood Safer Place, subject to final approval by Department of Sustainability and Environment.

This announcement is a result of the Bushfire Royal Commission established after the Black Saturday fires. All Victorian council's must name Neighbourhood Safer Places - places of last resort by July 1 this year.
