MURRAY crays are being caught in good numbers along the Murray River.

Rod Mackenzie reports the preferred bait is carp and the best results are between Pental Island and Boundary Bend.

Wemen is producing Murray cod to 90cm and yellowbelly to 1kg on lures.

Red Cliffs has cod to 1m and yellowbelly to 1.4kg.

Most big cod are being caught trolling deep diving lures or casting lures to snags.

The Wakool River is dirty but producing yellowbelly on scrubworms and yabbies.

Gary Constantine at Eildon says flat-line trolling near the mouth of Big River is producing mainly rainbow trout to 2kg.

In the main arm and Point Dethridge, trout to 1.5kg are being caught trolling and bait fishing with Powerbait and redfin are taking scrubworms near the power lines.

Eildon Pondage is down to the river course and reports are slow. However, trout to 2.2kg are still being caught near the Cemetery on scrubworm and Powerbait.

In the Western District, Lake Bullen Merri, at Camperdown, is fishing well for brown and rainbow trout to 2kg, and the odd bigger brown trout to 4.9kg.

Successful methods include flat line trolling or bait fishing with Powerbait from shore.

Lake Purrumbete is steady for brown and rainbow trout to 1.5kg.

Flat line trolling and mudeyes under a bubble float are the successful methods.

Wurdiboluc Reservoir has brown trout to1.5kg taking bibbed-minnow lures.

In southwest estuaries, bream to 32cm are being caught on raw chicken in the Fitzroy River.

The Hopkins River at Warrnambool is slow for bream to 36cm on lures.

Aire River is a better option with good numbers of bream taking shrimp.

There are many undersize bream but the average fish is about 28-32cm long.

In Port Phillip Bay, King George whiting to 40cm is taking squid and pipi at Portsea and St Leonards.

Garfish are in good numbers at Frankston with silverfish the top bait.

Calamari squid from 800g to 2kg are being caught off Mornington, Portsea and the Lonsdale Bight on baited and imitation jigs.

The Docklands area of the Yarra River is producing bream on lures.

In South Gippsland, Western Port is producing King George whiting to 48cm along the Middle Spit, Tankerton, Stony Point, Ventnor and between Balnarring and Flinders.

Best baits have been pipi and fresh squid.

Gummy sharks ranging from 5kg to 16kg are taking squid and fish fillets off Tortoise Head and Stony Point.

Beaches at Woolamai, Kilcunda and Venus Bay are producing salmon to 1.5kg on surf poppers and whitebait.

Anderson Inlet has salmon to 1kg taking lures and King George whiting to 36cm being caught on Bass yabbies and squid.

Port Welshpool has gummy sharks being caught on fresh salmon fillets, and salmon to about 2.5kg.

In the Gippsland Lakes, estuary perch are taking shrimp and lures near the King St boat ramp at Paynesville and in the Straits at Hollands Landing.

The Mitchell River is producing large bream on prawn and soft plastics, the Nicholson River is steady for mullet and bream and the Tambo River has yelloweye mullet, bream and flathead taking crab and prawn.

Metung's boardwalk has grass whiting, luderick, silver trevally and bream being caught on prawn and pipi.

Bream, silver trevally and yelloweye mullet are biting on peeled prawn and pilchard strips along the Scallop Wharf at Lakes Entrance.

Salmon, tailor and luderick are biting in Reeves Channel.

Lake Tyers has bream and silver trevally biting on peeled prawn between Camerons Arm and Nowa Nowa.

At Marlo, the surf beaches are steady for salmon and tailor on bluebait and surf poppers, and gummy sharks biting on squid.

The estuary system has luderick, mullet and bream biting on prawn and sandworm.

The beaches at Bemm River and Mallacoota are producing salmon to 2kg, and Mallacoota Inlet has bream taking prawns and yabbies.
