The competition attracted more than 70 entries.
Show society secretary Rosemary Loughnan said on-farm judging was more economically sustainable.
"The last couple of seasons have been ordinary for farmers and this is a cost-effective way of entering dairy cattle into competitions," Ms Loughnan said.
Next year's competition is set to expand and judging will take place over a week-long period in the Bass Coast, South Gippsland, Cardinia and Baw Baw shires.
The 2010 On-farm Dairy Cattle Judging Competition has been nominated for a Fonterra Dairy Leadership Award at this year's Regional Achievement and Community Awards.
