THE Australian launch of the revolutionary new sheep drench Zolvix is imminent.
Novartis Animal Health, which spent up to $440 million developing the drench now available in New Zealand, the UK and Uruguay, has been scouring NSW and South Australia for potential launch sites.
It has also begun advertising for sales staff to promote the product.
While the official green light for Zolvix has not yet been given, the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority last month announced it was satisfied with the chemical and manufacturing elements of the new class of sheep drench. No launch date has been set.
The APVMA last month called for a 28-day public comment period, prior to Zolvix being registered for general use.
According to Novartis, Zolvix is the first product from a new class of resistance-breaking anthelmintics and is highly effective against sheep gastro-intestinal nematodes.
It is the first novel sheep drench in more than 25 years.
