OPPOSITION leader Tony Abbott says a national blueprint for water would be available if Labor had not dragged the chain on the Murray Darling Basin.
Mr Abbott was asked on radio if he was outraged that the independent authority looking after the blueprint for water was not going to release the plan until after the election.
"Well, I am happy to say that," Mr Abbott told radio 5AA in Adelaide today.
"If the government had not dragged the chain in terms of everything to do with the Murray Darling this blueprint would be well and truly out by now.
"I mean, Senator Wong has basically procrastinated on everything to do with the Murray Darling basin, which is why the good plan which the Howard government put in place is still not being implemented the way it ought to be."
Mr Abbott said there were billions of dollars available to improve infrastructure and to buy back water to help the health of the river.
"And it is not happening because this government basically has got bogged down in endless dialogue with state Labor governments which are the masters of disaster at everything."
