MEAT and Livestock Australia's senior market analyst, Peter Weeks, will leave the company today after 12 years.
Mr Weeks said he had watched dramatic industry change: "The quality of the product coming through is a lot better than it was 12 years ago".
"(More stock are turned off) through feedlots now, and Meat Standards Australia underpins a lot of the buying. There have been no shortages of challenges," he said.
"BSE in Japan in 2000 and in the US and Canada in 2003; severe drought in 2002-03 and 2006-07; the low dollar in 2001, and the volatility of the Australian dollar in the last few years has been unprecedented."
Mr Weeks will be replaced by MLA economist Tim McRae.
