THE troubled relationship between Tasmania's peak farming body and AusVeg appears to be on the mend.
In December 2008, The Weekly Times reported the TFGA had pulled out of AusVeg after it refused to accept Mike Badcock as Tasmania's representative.
Mr Badcock was AusVeg chairman from 2003 until April 2008, when he and then-chief executive John Roach resigned from their positions after a stoush between board members.
At the time, then-Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association chief executive Chris Oldfield said Mr Badcock was "the ideal candidate", given his background and experience, and he was keen for Tasmania to be part of AusVeg.
Moriarty potato grower David Addison last year joined the AusVeg board as an observer, following talks between AusVeg chief executive Richard Mulcahy and Mr Oldfield.
TFGA chief executive Jan Davis, who succeeded Mr Oldfield in April, last week said she was unaware of "a fight" between the organisations.
Ms Davis said it was incorrect to say there had been a dispute after Mr Badcock's nomination was rejected.
"We asked some questions of AusVeg and that was a reasonable and legitimate thing to have done," Ms Davis said.
"Calling it a falling out is a bit strong, really.
"There's no issue. We've always been a member. We've never not been a member."
Mr Addison said his role as an observer was to give the TFGA "a foot in the door" and decide whether AusVeg had regained its stability after the appointment of a new chairman and chief executive.
He recommended to the TFGA's vegetable council that the group rejoin AusVeg "and they've elected to do that in the last month or so" and paid the appropriate membership fees.
Mr Mulcahy said all outstanding issues had been resolved and he expected Mr Addison's status as an observer to be changed to director in the next week.
"We're delighted to have them as part of our organisation and we're pleased to have every state grower organisation in horticulture as part of AusVeg," Mr Mulcahy said.
Neither Mr Addison, nor Mr Mulcahy would specify the amount of the membership fee paid by the TFGA or AusVeg's other state-based member organisations.
