TWO Victorian National Foods cheese plants are among nine factories run by the company nationally under review.
National Foods today announced an extensive review of its cheese manufacturing operations across Australia.
The company said in a statement that the sites included in the review were:
- Simpson and Campbellfield in Victoria.
- Jervois and Murray Bridge in South Australia.
- Kings Meadows, Burnie, King Island and Heidi Farm in Tasmania.
- Malanda in Queensland.
The company said its Allansford cheese manufacturing site recently underwent a review and a new supply agreement was put in place with Warrnambool Cheese and Butter, therefore it would not be part of this project.
National Foods said its cheese manufacturing business has evolved through brand and site acquisitions during the past 10 years.
To ensure it remained a leading producer of everyday and speciality cheeses, it had to provide capital investment into its operations.
The review would consider the duplication in the company's network, the long-term viability and sustainability of its sites and would look at innovation, technology and current and future environmental requirements.
For now, it was very much business at usual at all of the sites under review, the company said, adding its people, product quality and safety remained its key focus now and in the future.
National Foods expected that the review would be finalised next February.
But it said some improvement opportunities may be identified and implemented in the meantime.
