HANDY lines of heavy steers finished in the North East valleys kept buyers happy at Wodonga today.
Opportunity finishers and lotfeeders paid up to $810 for pens of heavyweight weaned steers.
A run of one-mark dehorned spring-drop Hereford steers from Holbrook also ticked the boxes, topping at $720.
Selling agents Corcoran Parker, Elders and Landmark yarded 2800 cattle for the special store sale.
Wagga Wagga commission buyer Andrew Lowe was active on the grown and weaned steers for Ladysmith feedlot, Tarcutta.
Hopkins River Feedlot, Dunkeld, was also operating as was several domestic processors.
Cattle sold to Corryong, Chiltern, Shepparton, Wangaratta, Tallangatta, Mitta Mitta, Holbrook, Corowa and Pakenham.
Grown steers weighing over 350kg liveweight sold for $695-$810, with the tops $50 down on the last special store sale.
Liveweight prices equated to 181-209c/kg.
The weaned and yearling steers (250-350kg) sold to firm demand at $650-$720, or 204-238c/kg.Lighter weight weaners weighing under 250kg were equal to recent sales at an average of $445 (239c/kg).
Many pens of mixed aged, rejoined cows with calves were presented in plain condition but the better quality cattle sold for $970-$1410.
The unjoined portion sold for $710-$1120 while spring calving heifers sold for $820-$1050.
Lotfeeder and restocker demand pushed the market for grown unjoined heifers up $15 to settle at $570-$730.
Lightweight heifer weaners lost ground to the tune of 11c/kg to finish at 180-205c/kg.
