AUSTRALIAN ski resorts are expecting some of their best spring skiing following bumper snow falls last month.

After a slow start to the season, resorts in NSW and Victoria have recorded some of their best August falls in 25 years.

Perisher received 157cm of snow during the month, a tick under its August record in 1984, while Thredbo reported whopping August falls of 256cm.

In Victoria, Mt Hotham also received more than two metres of snow, with 229 centimetres making it the resort's largest August snowfall since 1992.

Falls Creek recorded 250cm.
