THE perpetrator of a "disgusting" fatal attack on a beloved former show horse at Epping in Melbourne's north has sickened police.
The horse was stabbed and scalped in the horrific attack in Melbourne's north, the Herald Sun reports.
Cachet, a 15-year-old dappled bay thoroughbred mare, was found dead in an Oherns Rd paddock in Epping last Saturday afternoon.
The horse had sustained multiple stab wounds to her neck and back and also had her mane and some skin cut off.
Mill Park Sgt John Aleksovski said police could not rule out that the horse was shot before being hacked apart alive.
"It’s pretty sick. You can’t really describe it. What can you say other than it’s quite disgusting. You don’t sort of know what goes through people’s minds when they want to do stuff like this, but unfortunately it has happened and you’ve got people that are really quite upset about it," he said.
"This horse died quite slowly. It is one of the more sickening things you’d see (on the job)."
