A GENEROUS NSW scheme, paying households for solar power fed back into the energy grid, has been savagely cut.

The cut from 60c to 20c per kilowatt hour has already come into force.

The Government says spiralling costs of the scheme forced its hand to slash the pay-out to households for solar power they feed back into the grid.

Just 10 months after the Solar Bonus Scheme was introduced Premier Kristina Keneally announced the changes to the popular feed-in tariff yesterday.

Opposition climate change spokeswoman Catherine Cusack said the Government ignored warnings about the overheated scheme and people are now facing an unmitigated disaster for electricity prices.
