UNJOINED young ewes fetched up to $180 at today's sale of about 20,000 mostly Merino sheep at Swan Hill.

This was $50 better than the money on offer at the same sale last year, but the standout performers were the older ewes, which sold to $148 with just two pens selling for less than $100.

Elders livestock manager Peter Head told the crowd that most of today's vendors had been registered for last month's sale which was postponed for two weeks because of rain.

The 1 1/2 year old Merino ewes made to $180, 2 1/2 year old Merino ewes to $174 and 3 1/2 year old Merino ewes topped at $174.

Merino wethers sold at prices between $79 and $101.

A pen of 138 two to four-year-old Tamaleuca blood, February shorn, Merino ewes with 190 White Suffolk lambs to 14 weeks made $216 for the Hayden family, of Piangil.

Sale numbers were boosted by the dispersal of 5447 Moorundie Park blood ewes from Mt Manara, at Ivanhoe, at prices between $132 and $180.
