LAKE Eildon has fired up for brown trout.
Gary Constantine reports most fish are being caught on dark Tassie Devil lures trolled behind a paravane at about 8m deep.
Best areas are the Big River arm, Fraser Park and Nichols Inlet.
Large numbers of redfin to 1.5kg are being caught on scrubworms and Baltic Bobbers among the dead trees, and a few Murray cod to 65cm are being caught on large bibbed minnows trolled near Fraser Park.
Eildon Pondage has brown trout to 3kg and they are being caught on scrubworms and mudeyes.
In the Goulburn River, small rainbow trout are taking bladed lures. Lake Eppalock is producing good numbers of medium redfin to 1.2kg on scrubworms and lures.
Rod Mackenzie says Kangaroo Lake along with Lakes Boga and Charm are all fishing well for golden perch and redfin on bait.
The Wakool River is producing Murray cod to 65cm and golden perch to 1kg on scrubworms, bardi grubs and yabbies.
Golden perch dominate captures in the Murray River from Swan Hill to Wentworth.
Large numbers of yabbies are being caught all along the river and Mildura is producing catfish.
In East Gippsland, the Bottom Lake at Mallacoota Inlet is holding reasonable numbers of flathead and bream, and they are being caught on prawn and Bass yabbie.
Bemm River is steady for bream on local prawn and lures and the Snowy River at Marlo is producing bream, luderick, estuary perch and mullet.
In the Gippsland Lakes area, Lake Tyers is producing flathead in the Nowa Nowa Arm, and bream at Blackfellows Arm and Mill Point.
The scallop jetty at Lakes Entrance has silver trevally and bream and most beaches from Mallacoota to Lakes Entrance are producing salmon to about 3kg on metal lures or bluebait fished in conjunction with a surf popper.
Luderick are being caught on weed in the Straits at Paynesville and flathead are taking pipi at Raymond Island. Lake King has tailor being caught on lures.
Metung anglers are using soft plastic lures and prawn to catch flathead and silver trevally.
In the Tambo River, bream, flathead and small numbers of silver trevally are biting at "Rough Road" and the mouth on prawn and sandworm.
The "Straight Six" on the Nicholson River has bream taking prawn; flathead and tailor are being caught on hard body lures.
The Mitchell River has bream taking prawn baits at Eagle Point and estuary perch being caught on soft plastic lures at Bairnsdale. Hollands Landing jetty is producing bream on shrimp and prawn.
In South Gippsland, Western Port is fishing well.
Calamari squid are being caught at Flinders on bait and prawn jigs and schools of Australian salmon near the Western Entrance are offering great sport for light tackle anglers spinning and trolling.
King George whiting are being caught along the Middle Spit, Warneet and Corinella.
Most fish are to 40cm and being caught on pipi, mussel and squid. Elephant fish to 4kg are in good numbers off Corinella and Stockyard Pt and they are being caught on pilchard and squid.
In Port Phillip Bay, snapper averaging about 3kg are in good numbers in 19-21m of water from Mornington to Mt Martha.
Pilchard, squid and whiting bait doing well. Land-based anglers at Mt Martha are hooking snapper to 2kg, while the rock wall at St Helens in Corio Bay has produced snapper to 3.5kg.
Australian salmon are being caught in many areas including Altona, Black Rock, Safety Beach and Pt Henry.
Most fish are 1-2kg and being caught on metal lures and saltwater flies.
King George whiting averaging about 38cm are taking pipi and squid baits from Frankston to Mornington, Queenscliff to St Leonards and Pt Richards to Pt Henry.
Land-based anglers night fishing from the beach at McCrae are doing well on whiting. Calamari squid are being caught on prawn jigs off Pt Richards, Clifton Springs, Mt Eliza and Portsea pier.
