COLES has distanced itself from Tesco's radical plan to sell Australian lamb from non-mulesed flocks.
A Coles spokesman said the supermarket giant "supported the current code of Australian practice" in lamb production.

Last week, The Weekly Times revealed UK-based supermarket chain Tesco sought Australian lamb from accredited, non-mulesed flocks through meat processor JBS Swift.
"It is an area that does have some level of customer concern and we will continue to monitor that," the spokesman said.
"If we decide to make any changes in the future, we will do so in consultation with suppliers."
As lamb is predominantly not from a mulesed animal, Australian consumers were satisfied with the product on offer, the spokesman said.
But, Australian producers increasingly chose to meet new and unique customer requirements, JAS-ANZ chief executive James Galloway said.
Government-appointed JAS-ANZ was the accreditation body for Australia and New Zealand responsible for providing industry with accreditation for the supply of specific products.
