MERAWAH Poll Herefords went out with a bang last week.

It recorded a $30,000 top price and $8509 average for 57 bulls sold in a complete clearance.

Held on property at Boggabilla, the sale marked the end of 85 years of breeding for the Mackay family.

The average price is the best recorded at an Australian Hereford sale so far this year.

Euroa stud Redhill Poll Herefords bought the top priced sire, Merawah Super Maxi E154.

Total clearance 

LANDFALL Angus at Launceston in Tasmania marked its eighth spring sale with a total clearance and average price of $6197 - $1727 up on last year - for 48 bulls.

The $13,000 top-priced sire was by Te Mania Infinity 04 379 and boasted estimated breeding values of +125 for 600-day weight and +5.5 for eye muscle area.

Co-principal Ed Archer said the result reflected increased confidence across the industry.

Back to school 

BEEF School, run by the Department of Primary Industries, will bring together experts to deliver cutting edge information at Melbourne University on October 10.

Producers will hear from animal geneticist Mike Goddard, as well as experts in demand, hay and silage production, live animal assessment and pasture utilisation.

Cost is $40, or $125 including accommodation and dinner the night before.
