A BIG-bodied Poll Merino ram topped the Uardry Foundation Sale on Tuesday at $16,000.
The sale, held on-property at Hay, recorded a 100 per cent clearance and average $200 up on last year.The catalogue of 132 polled and horned rams grossed $244,150 and averaged $1850.
New clients Boughan Brothers and J & R Edwards, of Karoonda, paid $16,000 for a two tooth ram weighing 128.5kg.
Sired by Ridgeway Advance 7.133, the polled ram had a micron of 21.6 and comfort factor of 99.4 per cent.
Uardry manager Ben Lane said the stud retained a half share in the young sire.
Repeat client D F Stewart & Co, Ardlethan, paid the second top price of $13,000.
Mr Lane said the sale result reflected the strong wool, lamb and restocker markets.
"We were really happy with the result - there was a good roll up of buyers plus a handfull of new clients,'' he said.
Underpinning the sale was Trevor Hendwood, Howlong Station, Carrathool, with 19 rams to a top of $2750.
Another major buyer was Bruce Atkinson, Leniston Pines, Finley, taking home 12 rams to a top of $1000.
Buyers attened from Narrandera, Cooma, Junee, Trundle, Merriwagga, Nyngan, Darlington Point and Pyramid Hill.
"Buyers were after good framed sheep with crimpy free growing wool,'' Mr Lane said.
"We have concentrated on breeding a balanced, plain bodied sheep with a good amount of wool.''
