RACING Victoria will boost country racing prizemoney by about $15 million next season.

The money is part of a financial windfall from the new deal with TabCorp, which recently won the Victorian wagering rights for the next 12 years.

Specific city races also will be given a boost, while RV keeps a handy reserve of funds.

Ballarat's jumping

BALLARAT plans to stage two hurdle races - one in early June and the other in mid-July - to support the next jumps season.

Chief executive Lachlan McKenzie said the club had strong support from local trainers, including Darren Weir, Patrick Payne and the Aquanita crew.

Greens hit hurdle

A MOVE to ban jumps racing in South Australia has failed after the Government and Opposition joined forces to defeat a Greens bill.

The Greens are now considering taking their challenge to court.
