THE $200,000 Jayco Bendigo Cup has been won by Lloyd Williams owned Tanby.

Williams took out the quinella when the consistent Tanby defeated imported galloper At First Sight, the Herald Sun reports.

Now Williams will sweat on a re-handicap for Tanby to see whether he will gain a start in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup.

Currently he is number 39 in the order but a one kilogram penalty would propel him to equal 26th, which would put him on the borderline.

Williams and his trainer Robert Hickmott could have six runners in the Melbourne Cup - At First Sight, Linton, Mourayan, Midas Touch, Green Moon and possibly Tanby.

Tanby was perfectly ridden by Steven King, who positioned the galloper in sixth placing on the fence then gained a run at the top of the straight and kicked clear.

Tanby ($4) defeated At First Sight ($2.90) by two lengths with the leader Western Symbol fighting on for third.
