QUEENSLANDER Sheriden Manuel won the City of Wodonga World Cup qualifier on Saturday at the Showjumping Spectacular.
For the 24-year-old from Gleneagles, it was his first career Jumping World Cup qualifier win.
Riding striking gelding Renmarno, he was ninth out in the 13 horse jump-off.
Manuel was the only rider to take the tight inside turn to fence four, finishing with one rail down in 37.9 seconds to clinch the title.
Runner-up was Australia's most successful junior rider, Wagga Wagga's Tom McDermott, 18, who jumped a slick second round riding Statford Delight to finish with one rail down in 40.54 seconds. He made amends with some other great wins at the event.
Third was the Equitana Grand Prix winner David Dobson, from Perth, riding Akon, finishing on four penalties in 41.03 seconds.
The Wodonga Indoor Exhibition Centre was bursting at the seams as about 3000 spectators squeezed into every possible vantage point to catch the excitement as 23 of Australia's top jumping riders vying for the $7000 in prizemoney.
Saturday evening's event was the most exciting World Cup qualifier of the season so far with seven of the 23 starters jumping clear in the first round, creating a crowd-pleasing jump-off against the clock.
Each horse entering the arena posted a faster time then the last.
The course was designed by Leeson Sirett, from Colbinabbin, who set a testing 1.45m to 1.55m course including a double and treble combination.
Now in its third decade this fabulous event conducted by the Border and District Show Jumping Club attracts the largest spectator numbers in Australia to see just one jumping event.
McDermott outclassed his peers to win the hotly contested Quadrant Securities Betty McVean Memorial A and B Grade Championship.
Riding Statford Delight, McDermott jumped clear and fast in the jump-off to finish just ahead of Becky Allen, from Arthurs Creek but now based in Queensland, riding her lovely mare RSB Jacana.
Bob Pritchard from Wangaratta created excellent courses for the outdoor arena producing exciting jump-offs.
McDermott also won the Wessel Drilling Junior Championship riding Capone then the Cleanaway 1.25m jump off class riding LH Annie-Elka and to finish off a great weekend also won the 1.15m height class.
Andrew Inglis, from Maroota, won the John Hossack Funeral Services Mini Prix riding I Casper, who put up a fast, fault-free jump off round to win the nine-horse jump-off.
George Johnston, from Nelson, was runner-up, riding the Victorian-bred Wondaree Sprite.
David Dobson won the Walsh Earthmoving Futurity riding Oaks Zena, making it two futurity classes in a row following his win at Shepparton last week.
Zoe Bolton, from Sale, won the Saddleworld Wangaratta D grade class riding CF Short Torque, and Evie Buller, from Perth, won the McNamaras CRT and Mitavite B and C grade on Yalambi's Landor.
Local Kristie Ansell won the Indoor Junior class riding Chancellor, and NSW rider James Hetherington won the Comfort Inn Blazing Stump Young Rider Championship on Peppertree.
