TWO Romney breeders have been awarded life membership of the Australian Romney Association.

Helen Brewer, from Strathalbyn in South Australia, started the Radstock Romney stud with husband Charlie in 1948, making it the third oldest in Australia.

Mr Brewer died in 1958, but Mrs Brewer continued with the stud, now run by her daughter Leslie.

The other recipient was George Melano of Meandarra from Queensland, who established Glenholme stud in 1947.

Merino dispersal 

PETER and Anne Saglietti will disperse their Ponkeen Merino flock at Tarcombe in northern Victoria next week.

The complete flock dispersal on December 15, will see 1800 Merinos sold.

The fine-wool flock was established in 1950 on Kilfeera Park and Toland Merino bloodlines, and the flock averages about 18.5-micron wool.

The Sagliettis pla to focus on their commercial cattle operation and establish a Red Angus stud.

New Herefords Australia boss

HEREFORDS Australia has a new boss.

John McKew, who has experience in agriculture and business, will begin at the start of next year.

HAL chairman Keith Miles said the new chief executive would be charged with taking the breed in to the future.

THE Victorian Farmers Federation plans to continue its animal health extension workshops next year after a successful trial over the past few months.

Workshops have tackled issues like pestivirus, vaccination, industrial relations and occupational health and safety.

VFF livestock group president Chris Nixon said the workshops not only listed facts but were interactive.
