Seaweed a real pest
VOLUNTEERS and divers removed almost five tonnes of undaria, a pest seaweed, from Apollo Bay's harbour last weekend.
Eleven divers and snorkellers helped on Saturday and seven on Sunday.
Department of Sustainability and Environment marine policy officer John Barker said it was the second year the department, Parks Victoria and volunteers had tackled the infestation.
Once removed it was taken to the tip and used in landfill, he said.

Support for youth
A YOUTH worker will be employed next year in Morwell as part of the State Government's Centre of Multicultural Youth regional offices project.
Youth Affairs Minister Ryan Smith said Morwell would be the first of two regional centres to receive the youth service.
He announced a Morwell-based youth worker would be employed and the office would open early next year.
Mr Smith said the centres would support young people from multicultural backgrounds to develop their leadership skills.
"Young people make up a significant proportion of new overseas arrivals to Victoria, and gaps have been identified in services catering to their specific needs and circumstances," Mr Smith said.
The Centre of Multicultural Youth has offices in Carlton, Broadmeadows, Dandenong and Sunshine, and workers travel around the state to deliver programs.
