A REPORT has found raising Wivenhoe Dam in Queensland would be expensive and won't give Brisbane extra flood protection.
A report has found raising the dam, in southeast Queensland, would not give Brisbane extra flood protection in all cases.
The government released a consultant's report today on options to increase the flood mitigation performance of Wivenhoe Dam.
The independent report, by engineering consultants GHD, is in response to the Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry's interim report, which ordered an examination of how the dam could better protect the capital from flooding.
The report estimates raising Wivenhoe by two metres would cost up to $830 million and take around four years and create 437,000 megalitres of flood storage capacity.
The information will also be considered in the Wivenhoe and Somerset Dam optimisation study, expected to be handed down at the end of next year.
