A SURVEY of Wilsons Promontory Marine National Park has found high numbers of seals and fewer black-spined urchins.

Seven divers did surveys at Glennie Island, Norman Bay, Roaring Meg, Tongue Point, Refuge Cove and Bareback Bay.

Parks Victoria marine science manager Dr Steffan Howe said healthy populations of long- snouted boarfish, banded morwong and rock lobster were also found.

Popular oval gets makeover

DROUIN'S Bellbird Park oval will be resown with drought-tolerant grass during a $300,000 upgrade.

Baw Baw Shire Mayor Diane Blackwood said the oval would be reshaped and an irrigation system installed in the project, which has attracted $100,000 from the State Government.

Drouin Cricket Club, the Milo in2cricket program, Gippsland Umpires Association and Drouin Junior Football Club use the oval.

Rides and walks for health

HUNDREDS of people are expected at a motor neurone disease event at Lake Benalla next month.

The Mick Rodger Act to D-Feet MND has raised more than $200,000 for research since Benalla businessman and sportsman Michael Rodger was diagnosed with the disease in 2008.

He died in 2010.

Events on February 26 include rides and walks, for $20 or $40 a family.

Pre-event registrations are available from Mitchell Health Care in Bridge St.
