THE sound of hooves will be heard in Merrijig this weekend.
Wagons, pack horses, drovers and cattle are heading to the Mountain Cattlemen's annual Festival and Get Together.
The event is expected to attract more than 3000 visitors for a celebration of the culture of Victoria's high country.
Activities from Friday to Sunday include horse races, a bush market, a heritage parade, polo, pony rides, dog jumping and poetry reading.
Festival co-ordinator and branch president Bruce McCormack said the Mountain Cattlemen's Cup and the heritage parade would be major drawcards.
"The basis for this whole event is to get cattlemen, their families and the general public together for a celebration of the heritage and culture of the mountain cattlemen," Mr McCormack said.
