Federal treasurer Wayne Swan and Agriculture minister Joe Ludwig were in Brisbane this morning to support the Eat Australian on Australia Day campaign.

Queensland's AgForce president Brent Finlay said his group, Queensland Farmers' Federation, Australian Banana Growers Council, CANEGROWERS, Resource Consulting Services, Queensland Dairyfarmers Organisation, Cotton Australia, Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association, Australian Prawn Farmers, Potatoes South Australia, Growcom and financial services provider Interllichoice worked together on the concept.

"Last year was a tough year for Queensland farmers especially and we have amazing stories of extraordinary efforts to keep food flowing through to supermarket shelves," Mr Finlay said.

"Aussie farmers are highly valued by the community, and this is a terrific way to show it."

The group has created a facebook page to promote Aussie produce.

Australian Made, Australian Grown is also pushing Aussies to buy local.

"Buying Australian means that you are helping the Australian economy, supporting local jobs and investing in your own community," Australian Made, Australian Grown chief Ian Harrison said.

"You are also buying products meeting high and strict production standards," he said.

Victorian agriculture minister Peter Walsh joined the campaign to promote the work of Australian farmers during the Year of the Farmer.

"Victoria has much to boast about when it comes to agriculture, but our farmers also put in a lot of hard work to achieve that great reputation for quality food," Mr Walsh said.
