Govt urged to declare natural disaster
Water levels in many areas are falling this morning, prompting some residents to turn their attention to the clear-up operation and the declaration of disaster zones would unlock further government funding to help pay for repair work.
Bellingen mayor Mark Troy says they are really hopeful that there will be a natural disaster declaration, as there will probably be significant road damage.
A spokesman for emergency services minister Mike Gallacher says the State Emergency Service will conduct assessments as they are able to access the areas affected.
