THE Victorian Government is to keep the Grains Logistics Taskforce in place for another year.

Minister for Ports Denis Napthine met with taskforce members today to thank them for their work during the past four months and ask them to continue to advise the Government on inefficiencies in the grain supply chain for the 2012-13 harvest.

The GLT was set up by Dr Napthine and Transport Minister Terry Mulder last September to report on grain supply chain issues.

The taskforce reported back in late December, reiterating many problems already acknowledged as plagueing the industry and identifying some new issues.

But rail users say they want action, rather than more reports.

In tomorrow’s The Weekly Times, former V/Line freight manager Michael Halley and Wakefield Transport Group manager Ken Wakefield argue the Government is struck by "analysis paralysis".

Mr Napthine said he had asked the GLT to reconvene in mid-2012 and update their recommendations in time for the new crop's harvest.
