GRAIN companies are beginning to close their grain pools.

Southern Quality Produce will close its 2011-12 canola pool at 5pm today, but other grain pools remain open.

SQP managing director Ben Fleay said the remaining pools could shut at any time with little or no notice, so growers intending to deliver grain should make arrangements promptly.

AWB has also announced its wheat pools for the Victorian and NSW port zones and all its barley pools will not accept grain after Friday.

In addition, AWB will shut its durum wheat pools today.

AWB barley and wheat estimated pool returns were left unchanged this week, but durum grades fell $12 a tonne.
